OUR STORY – CAIRNS EYE SURGERY

Cairns Eye Surgery has two eye doctors – Dr Brian Todd and Dr Andrew Field.

Cairns Eye Surgery is a comprehensive general eye clinic. We offer both Medical and Surgical Ophthalmology management.

Cataract Surgery is provided by Dr Todd at a heavily subsidised rate for those without private health insurance, known as intermediate surgery. Please talk to our reception staff about these if you wish.

The eye doctors in this practice have experience in examining, detecting, diagnosing and treating eye problems. Some of the conditions treated include: Cataracts, Glaucoma, lid tumours and reconstructive surgery, Macular Degeneration, Pterygium, retinal disorders as well as manifestations of medical conditions such as diabetes.

Extraocular procedures (surgery of the outer surface of the eye) are performed in our well-equipped minor operations room located within the Clinic. Major intraocular procedures (surgery inside the eye; e.g.: Cataract surgery) are performed at day surgery facilities in Cairns, both at the Cairns Private Day Surgery Unit and the Cairns Base Hospital.

Cairns Eye Surgery is a brand new, purpose built eye clinic in Cairns and surrounding areas. At this new location the latest world class diagnostic and treatment technology will be used, in step with eye centres in major cities in Australia, and the precision made equipment come directly from Germany.

The new eye surgery is a stand-alone building in the heart of the “cafe district” in Edge Hill, with dedicated car parking, excellent public transport accessibility, civic amenities and close to the city.

We understand coming to see the specialist is something that requires lots of organisation, especially if coming from a long distance, often involving family members to accompany, and we want to make that experience as pleasant and convenient as possible. The eye clinic’s location in Edge Hill is easy to access with easy parking. Dr Todd also conducts clinic at Atherton Hospital to help reduce the travelling many patients have to do to access specialist eye service.

The clinic is beautifully fitted out to provide a relaxing environment for both the staff and patients. It is a large clinic with a dedicated minor operation theatre, 4 assessment/ work up rooms, 5 measurement rooms, 5 doctor consulting rooms, and 3 retina laser rooms. There is also a large waiting area, with 3 dedicated patient bathrooms.

Cairns Eye Surgery has two convenient locations. Edge Hill clinic is our primary location, at the 5 ways roundabout. Dr Brian Todd also has a clinic for the Tablelands’ patients, at the Atherton Hospital. This is fully equipped to assess and treat most general eye problems. Patients seen at Atherton will have their Cataract Surgery performed in Cairns.
